Item 32.
Pixies of Nickel Creek A painting by Jim Thompson Digital 33.5x23 Those parts of our psyche that demand departure from the sometimes mundane and factual realms of our lives, have often pervaded the fantasies, folklore, literature and dreamscapes of the imagination and have even made their way into our more romantic side. The sober and sane parameters we often set for ourselves, may create in us a need for that magical space and timelessness we love to associate with our deepest yearnings. How conveniently the mythical creatures we call pixies fit this niche. Some of the greatest creative minds—poets, sages, and artists—have often visited on us these beings, who are sometimes said to embody some our most profound feelings and imagined powers. Here such creatures live in a very old tree, deep in some enchanted woods, spilling out at some strange nocturnal rhythm together, as though part of some great family that may have existed for thousands of years. They seem to respond to a full moon and take delight in this favorite creek with its little falls and pools. Their innocent, child-like play evokes that side of ourselves which may abandon the strictures of social norms. Of course they glow, each with a personal color that may be as much a signal to who they are as individuals as it is amazing to behold. The deeper background leads one into that mystique of the terrain that is dimly lit with the bluish, hazy light of a cool, lush summer night. Art, Mind and SoulArtist and creator
